Corralillo Garnacha Matetic
PRODUCER
Matetic Vineyards embody the pioneering spirit and vision of modern Chilean winemaking. This biodynamic project was founded in 1999 by the Matetic family. Already established as farmers with extensive landholdings, the fourth generation of the family turned their attention to grapes. Confident of the attributes of the climate and soils in the coastal Rosario Valley of San Antonio, they planted 160 hectares of vines, and now farm 170 hectares of coastal biodynamic vineyard.
Their wines move from the fruit-forward Corralillo range, through the more complex and layered R’ range, with the flagship Matetic Syrah at the top of the tree.
VINEYARD
The grapes come from Matetic’s 16-hectare Santo Tomás vineyard in the San Antonio Valley, just 11 miles from the sea. The vineyard was planted in 2013 on granite soils.
WINERY
The grapes were fermented with fifty percent whole bunches using wild yeasts, and the wine was aged for fourteen months in a mixture of second-, third- and fourth-fill French oak barrels.
TASTING NOTE
Bright and supple, with crisp red fruits and a compelling stony, earthy core. The finish is fresh and lithe, with just a hint of warm spices.
