PRODUCER
The magnificent San Pedro de Yacochuya estate occupies a privileged position at the foot of the Andes, in Chile’s Maipo Valley. The estate’s vines are planted on large, north-facing slopes, from the middle to the upper parts of the hills, creating a unique horseshoe-shaped valley.
The estate is internationally renowned for its thoroughbred breeding farm. The wine side of San Pedro de Yacochuya is now owned by the Rothschild and Antinori families, with chief winemaker Xenio Cotarella bringing his own elegant sensibility to bear while reflecting the character of this very particular terroir.
VINEYARD
The grapes come entirely from the organically managed estate vineyard surrounding the winery, where vine varieties are matched to each individual plot to maximise the quality of the raw material. The grapes are picked by hand.
WINERY
The various parcels are fermented individually in either tanks or French oak vats, following a short cold soak.
After alcoholic fermentation, using only wild yeasts, the wine is transferred to one-year-old French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and twelve months’ maturation. It is then bottled without fining or filtration.
TASTING NOTE
Intense, elegant nose with notes of mint, spices and liquorice, leading into ripe flavours of black fruits, blackberry, plum and cassis. Generously structured on the palate, with a seam of earthy minerality.
