PRODUCER
Matetic Vineyards embodies the pioneering spirit and vision of modern Chilean winemaking. This biodynamic project was founded in 1999 by the Matetic family. Already established as farmers with extensive landholdings, the fourth generation of the family turned its attention to grapes. Confident in the attributes of the climate and soils in the coastal Rosario Valley of San Antonio, they planted 160 hectares of vines and now farm 170 hectares of coastal biodynamic vineyards.

Their wines range from the fruit-forward Corralillo range, through the more complex and layered EQ range, with the flagship Matetic Syrah at the top of the tree.

VINEYARD
The grapes come from biodynamic vineyards in San Antonio’s Rosario Valley, planted on granite soils with some volcanic matter and quartz. Two Syrah clones are grown here, with some blocks rooted deeply enough to allow dry farming for much of the season. The fruit is harvested by hand, lot by lot.

WINERY
Each lot was fermented separately in two- and five-tonne open-top tanks, following a ten-day pre-fermentation cold maceration. The wine was racked into selected French oak barrels and aged for eighteen months before bottling.

TASTING NOTE
A lively, blue-fruited nose with violet-floral scents, black pepper and hints of wet earth. Poised and fresh on the palate, with bright acidity and vibrant, juicy black fruits, a very polished tannin profile and a saline-mineral finish.
